In what may be either a great prediction or wishful thinking, Bloomberg has reported that Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, the electric luxury car company, said in June that a Republican presidential victory in November would have a “minor impact” on electric car sales in the US. Musk did not comment on what a Democratic Party success would do.
Musk’s comments were made at a first delivery ceremony for Tesla’s Model S large sedan. These cars sell for more than $60,000.
Musk’s comments came after the likely Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, described government support for electric vehicles as poor policy and “crony capitalism”. According to Mr. Musk his lack of concern for political issues derives from the momentum that that electric vehicles have built up, which he says the Model S sedan will ensure.
It will be very interesting for clean technology observers to see what the political winds will do to electric cars and other clean technology projects advancing right now.
