A new report from the National Research Council reveals that hydraulic fracturing has a low risk for causing earthquakes that can be felt by people, but that the underground injection of wastewater discarded after “fracking” and other energy operations has a higher risk of causing such earthquakes.  The report calls for continued research on the matter.  The report can be accessed here and you can read the full press release issued by National Academies here.
