Why Doesn’t Somebody Keep Track of State Regulations on Fracking? by sustainabilitypepper

If you’ve ever tried to keep up with the status of which states have moratoria on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) or figure out what shale gas regulations are in place in one state or another, you may have wondered whether there is a more efficient way to find this information than checking each state’s website. Although perhaps not as well known as it should be, there is a website that collects this information and makes it available to the public.

The FracFocus website is the joint effort of the Ground Water Protection Council (whose members are state water regulators) and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (a multi-state government agency). The site contains other useful information as well, including a feature that allows you to select a geographic area, locate wells in it, and learn what chemicals are being used in the operation, if the operator has disclosed that information.

For those interested in the fast-moving world of fracking, this website might be one to bookmark.
